New: Harvest Now Checks for Offers Before You Sell

Farmer Harvey

Since 2021, Harvest has been the buyer of last resort. You send us the NFTs and tokens that went to zero, we pay you 1 gwei each, and you get a clean sale to report. No listings, no waiting, no haggling.

But not everything that ends up in the barn is truly worthless. Every so often, something in a cart has a real bid sitting on it. Selling that for 1 gwei leaves money on the table.

So now, before anything sells to us, Harvest checks for offers first.

What's new

When you open checkout, Harvest looks up open marketplace offers on the items in your cart. If someone is bidding more than 1 gwei, you can sell into that bid instead. Everything nobody wants goes through the usual 1 gwei checkout, same as always.

Either way, you get a real sale on record, which is what you need to realize the loss.

How it works

  1. Connect your wallet and add items to your cart.
  2. Leave Check offers first ticked. It's on by default.
  3. Hit Continue to checkout. We look for offers on what's in your cart.
  4. Review what we found, including exactly what you'll receive for each item.
  5. Accept the offers you want. Then we look again, in case there are more.
  6. When no new offers turn up, or you skip, the rest of your cart sells to us for 1 gwei.
  7. Download your receipt.

If you'd rather skip the lookup entirely, untick Check offers first and checkout works exactly like it did before.

The fine print

  • Ethereum and Base only, for now. Items on other chains go straight to the 1 gwei checkout.
  • Paid in WETH. Offers are paid by the bidder in WETH, not ETH.
  • Fees are already taken out. The amount we show is what lands in your wallet, after marketplace and Harvest fees. The transaction reverts unless you receive exactly that amount.
  • Tiny offers are ignored. Bids under 0.001 ETH aren't worth the gas, so we skip them.
  • We check a sample. For big carts we look up a sample of items per collection, so we can't promise to find every open offer.
  • Offers can disappear. A bidder can cancel, or someone else can fill the offer before you sign. If that happens, the item just stays in your cart for the 1 gwei checkout.
  • No bid tickets. Offer sales don't mint bid tickets. Items sold to us for 1 gwei still do.

Why this matters for your taxes

Selling into an offer is still a sale. If you sell for less than you paid, you still realize a loss. The loss is just a bit smaller, because your proceeds are higher.

A hypothetical: you paid $2,000 for an NFT, and your tax rate is 30%.

  • Sell to us for 1 gwei: you realize about a $2,000 loss, worth roughly $600 off your tax bill.
  • Sell into a $150 offer: you realize a $1,850 loss, worth roughly $555 off your tax bill, plus $150 in your wallet. That's $705 in total.

A dollar in your wallet beats a deduction worth thirty cents, every time. That's the whole idea.
